Tips to take care of Skin and Hair while in Water

Swimming is the best activity to do in summers. Most of us know that swimming is a great activity and good exercise too, it helps to relax your brain.It’s a good sport to put your child into, from a young age. Swimming is also an essential life-saving skill to be learnt when you are abroad.

Swimming is one among those sports thatare seeing a huge wave, rising numbers of people taking part actively. It can be played both individually or as a team.  Swimming is also a part of the most prestigious sports event, Olympics, having different forms of swimming to take part in. butterfly stroke, backstroke, breaststroke etc. are few of the forms, that the players concentrate on and master them.

Least does many of us in depth about the damage of chlorine on our hair and skin, while swimming. A chemical called Chlorine is added to the pool, to keep it clean and free from any bacteria and microorganisms. But this chemical is too harsh for the human skin and hair. Persons who are extremely concerned about creating a career in swimming as participating for Olympics, winning medals or becoming a coach, most often neglect these side effects. Not even your coach will tell you that the water that you love to be in will harm your skin badly, causing tan and damage, to your hair too.

Come on and read, to know about how best you can reduce the damage, because theskin is something we wear every day and having it turn unfriendly will reduce your confidence in the later ages. Hair is another important part of one’s fashion quotient, losing them for a hobby will eventually make you lose interest in the sports either or on your hairs; both of which are not good.

Sometimes chlorine causes itchiness, flaky skin and rashes in few while drying out skin is the common seen worst effects.

  • Keeping the skin hydrated is very essential, both before and after swimming.
  • Before swim care
  • Use a good sunscreen lotion, waterproof on your skin, 20 minutes before you enter the pool.
  • Take shower before you enter the pool. This is very important, as the water helps your skin to stay hydrated inside the pool, without drying out.
  • You can apply, olive oil or coconut oil onto your skin, before entering the pool. This oil will prevent the moisture of your skin from losing out.
  • Drink plenty of water once you start your classes. Before entering the pool, drink a glass of water, to stay hydrated from inside.
  • After swimming care for skin:
  • Take a shower immediately after your swimming class. Rinse yourself in cold water, no hot water.
  • Apply oil after the shower process, it will keep the skin moisturised for hours, preventing it from drying out.
  • Apply sunscreen even after the swimming; it helps in prevention of tanning.
  • Use a cream, instead of lotion. As cream tends to stay for longer and will help the most dried parts to regain its moisture.
  • Try to use organic products as much as possible, as the chemicals in the creams and other stuff that you use will also damage the skin to an extent.
  • Check for the pH level of the product before purchasing.
  • If you are using the pool for more hours(more than 3 hours) then re-apply the sunscreen every 3 hours or even 2 hours, based on your frequency of swim.
  • Exfoliate skin twice a week, using herbal and organic products as much as possible. You can try using olive oil and sugar to exfoliate. Try using face masks that provide cooling effects.

Hair care:

Hair care during swimming is very important to maintain a healthy strand.

If you have coloured your hair, then apply alight coat of coconut or olive oil to prevent them from getting green due to chlorine.

Wearing good and tight swim cap is very important.

Shampoo your hair after swimming, to rinse that excess chlorine. Never forget to use conditioner.

To wash away chlorine completely, you may try using some elements to safely do the trick. Try using Vit C crystals, a teaspoon of this in one spray bottle of water and spray onto the head. Then rinse with regular shampoo, it gets rid of chlorine sticking to the hair which is not fully possible during regular showers.

Lastly, try applying hair masks to reduce the damage caused and to condition your hair.
